Time For GEJ To Take Control Of The PDP By Jonathan Isaiah

One of the major reasons that the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, is going through crisis is former President Goodluck Jonathan’s failure to provide direction and leadership to the party. After losing the elections, the position of the BOT chairman, which was an exclusive preserve of former presidents, was rejected by Jonathan.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo ended his romance with PDP by tearing his party card or rather he got someone to tear the

card for him. Tony Anenih had effectively retired from politics or to put it correctly, he was retired by former Edo governor, Adams Oshiomiole. Senator David Mark, another good contender to take charge of the party, has been missing in action in the Senate and party politics.
So, the onus was on Jonathan to take charge of the party, his failure to act and provide direction made Governor Nyelsome Wike of Rivers and his Ekiti counterpart, Ayo Fayose to hijack the party. The two governors, who were trying to be smart and with one eye on the Vice Presidential slot in 2019, went to beg Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to rescue the party and that was the genesis of their problems. I am not a fan of Sheriff but I love the way he has proved his point, you can’t use and dump him. At the end of the day, they may have to beg him. In all of this, it’s time Jonathan woke up to his responsibilities and take charge of the party to avoid Nigeria turning into a one-party state.
