Jonathan Shot to Death in Bayelsa

A former Chairman of Peremabiri Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Morris Jonathan, was on Monday shot to death in his residence in Akenpai area of Yenagoa, capital of the oil rich southern state of Bayelsa.
A witness said six gunmen, invaded Jonathan’s residence at about 1a.m. and shot sporadically before they entered the victim’s bedroom where they shot and killed him.

His wife and grief-stricken residents of the area were thrown into confusion, wailing uncontrollably.
It was gathered that the gunmen did not remove anything from the home of the former CDC chairman after shooting him.
A member of the family told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
The deceased hailed from Peremabiri, an oil bearing community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Mr Hilary Opara, confirmed the incident.
He said the assailants did not remove any valuable or cash from the deceased’s home after the attack.
“The Divisional Police Officer in the area called early in the morning to inform me of the murder”, he said.
Opara, who said no arrest had been made, however, added that police had commenced investigation into the matter
