Press Statement: Tinubu Media Office Reacts To Edwin Clark’s Attack On The Yoruba, Tinubu And Others
The recent diatribe launched by Chief
Edwin Clerk against the Yoruba people in one of the national dailies
fits into the trend of near idiotic vitriolic attacks on any perceived
opponents of the President, Goodluck Jonathan.
For his proper education and enlightenment, this react is necessary so that before it’s too late, Edwin Clark would rescue himself from destruct.
When elderly
men like him talk the way he talks, we know that Nigeria is in trouble.
The more he talks, the more we know wisdom has left him. At a time like
this, dialogue is good. Diatribe is not. Chief Clark should perhaps
listen more and talk less.
His recent comment about the lack of
leadership among Yoruba was telling but not so much against Yoruba’s but
as to the Chief himself. Who ever made him an expert on the Yorubas
needs to rescind that appointment? Clark is not competent to utter such a
comment. He would be better advised to tend to his own house and put
that in order instead of remarking on the quality of a home that he sees
from a far and cannot enter except through the kindness of the owner.
Of course, we all know that his remark
was an attempted broadside against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Olusegun
Obasanjo and other leading Yoruba Politicians who have refused to join
the Jonathan choir. Clark is afraid that the progressive party, APC
launched by Asiwaju Tinubu and other progressives throughout the nation
possesses the political clout to dislodge his ethnic kin from the Aso
Villa. Thus, Clark hates Tinubu and all those who speak up against the
miss-governance taking place. He hates Asiwaju Tinubu not because of
Tinubu's or the APC's policies or programs. Clark is ignorant of what
Asiwaju Tinubu and the APC stand for. Clark cares nothing for actual
modern democratic governance that will move this nation and all of its
people forward regardless of ethnic origin. Chief Edwin Clark is
obsessed with making sure his ethnic kin remains in the Villa by all
means necessary. He cares less if the nation crumbles around him. As
long as his ethnic son is on seat, all is fine for him. But all is not
fine for the rest of Nigeria. Not even members of Clark's own ethnic
group.
This is problem with people like
Clark. The nation is suffering a political, economic and moral slide
that must be arrested. If not we shall crash against the hard rock of
ill fate. Yet, all he can do is pound the ethnic drum. This is the
politics of old and has no place here.
If we continue in this way, we shall crash and that crash will not be a pretty one.
Clerk should not have insulted the Yoruba people and some of their leaders. What took him to Ikenne several times? Who were those he met with there or is that what he found out from Ikenne that Yorubas have no leader? However, no one will take the bait he has tried to toss into the public arena. He should come and claim his mess that we as a united and not an ethnically divided nation can walk forward.
So whether Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a
Yoruba leader is not the issue. For the man is not staking claim to be
the leader of the Yoruba. He is a national leader. He does not seek the
betterment of the Yoruba people to the detriment of other Nigerians. He
seeks the betterment of all Nigerians. Asiwaju Tinubu can make that
claim and it fits him. Can Clark make the same claim about himself? He
cannot.
Today, thanks to Tinubu working in
tandem with other likeminded progressives has engineered the re-birth of
the opposition. From forging the first political merger in the history
of Nigeria, he has remained fixed on providing a platform for
progressive governance and policies to lift Nigeria from the clutches of
poverty and unjust government. This is not a Yoruba dream. It Is a
Nigerian one. Clark’s utterances are not part of the Nigerian dream.
They are part of our present nightmare.
