el- Rufai Memo To PMB By Jonathan Nda-Isaiah
One major problem most politicians have is long-sightedness.According to the Cambridge English dictionary,long-sightedness is being able to see things clearly that are far away but not things that are near you.98 per cent of Nigerian politicians are affected with this syndrome.
How can one explain Kaduna State governor’s now famous memo to President Muhammadu Buhari. No doubt el- Rufai is arguably one of the closest governors to the president, and most Nigerians argue that what he wrote in the memois what he could have told the president personally and he is just a
phone call away from the president.
No doubt that the issues raised by el-rufai are germane and I have raised some of them in this column but my problem is the way and manner the memo was leaked to the press at this particular time. Like the Mafia, I don’t believe in coincidences. For the memo to leak now something must be up.
But to our long-sightedness syndrome, what stops el-Rufai from implementing all he wrote to Buhari in Kaduna State. I make bold to say el-Rufai is less popular in Kaduna right now than in 2015, when he assumed office no thanks to how he handled the southern Kaduna crisis, shittes massacre and demolition of structures in Kaduna. If he implements 50 percent of what he wrote in the memo in his state, Kaduna will be “small London “. In this case I am ignoring the message and telling the messenger to up his game in his state before removing the speck in the president’s eyes.
