THE 111THKHUTBAH ON
UNITY OF THE MUSLIM UMMAH DELIVERED AT AREA 10 JUMA’AH MASJID ABUJA, BY IMAM
YAHYA GARBA AL-YOLAWI, ON 17TH MAR 2017/ 18TH J/AKHIR 1438 AFTER HIJRA
TOPIC:
UNITY AND BROTHERHOOD OF THE MUSLIM UMMAH
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful,
the Especially Merciful.
To proceed; My dear
respected brothers and sisters in Islam, today’s khutbah centered on Unity and
brotherhood of the Muslim Ummah.
The Term Ummah is an
Arabic word meaning "community" or "nation". In Islam, the
word “Ummah” is used to describe the Muslims’ community across the globe. The
phrase UmmahWahidah (One Community) in the glorious Qur'an refers to the entire
Islamic world unified. Allah says: “Indeed this, your (ummah) religion, is one “Ummah”
religion, and
I am your Lord, so worship Me”. Q21:92 and He says: "You are
the best of the nations raised up for (the benefit of) men; you enjoin what is
right and forbid the wrong and believe in Allah ..." (3:110).
Islam considers all Muslims to be one Ummah, a
community whose basis is sound iman and common objectives and among all itsteachings
there existsa firmand strong unity and brotherhood which does not allow the differences of
region, race, language and nation to disrupt and disintegrate it.
Allah says :“Surely this community of yours is one
community (Ummah), and I am your Lord, therefore worship Me”. (Q21:92)
According to this verse, Muslims are identified as
one Ummah, as parts of which they move towards a common goal, strive to realize
their common objectives, worship one and the only God almighty SWT.The greatest
blessing that Allah bestowed on mankind is sending of His messenger, peace and blessings be on him – with a pure
religion that brings all good to mankind and protects them from all that is
evil through its principles of justice, unity, brotherhood, freedom and peace.
In Islam, people are like building bricks fused
together to form a solid wall. Each individual, like a brick, must be strong
and capable of withstanding the loads and stresses that he or she is required
to bear. Just as each brick must be fully mold, burnt, purified and
pass certain minimum standards, an individual also has to go through a
process spiritual training and
development in order to be an effective ambassador of Islam. But what is
involved in this construction of the individual? What does the individual have
to do in order to prepare for this God-given role? These are fundamental
questions because a prerequisite to the revival of Muslim society is a revival
of the individuals from inside- out.
Vearse and ahadith on
unity of muslimummah includes:
1.
Hold firmly to the rope of Allah
all together: Allah says: And hold firmly to the rope
of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of
Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and
you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the
Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses
that you may be guided”. Q3:103 and He says”And do not be like the ones who
became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those
will have a great punishment”. Q3:105
2. United
we stand, Divided we fall: Allah says: “And obey Allah and His
Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength
would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient”. Q8:46
3. Muslims
are one Ummah:Allah says: “Indeed this, your (ummah)
religion, is one “Ummah” religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me”. Q21:92
In many ahadith Muslims are described as one body
and different units of the Muslim Ummah are regarded as the organs of a single
body.
4. Muslims
are supporters to each other:It was narrated from Abu Said (RA) that, the
Prophet (SAW) said, "A believer's relationship to other believers is like
that of the different parts of a building, each of which supports the
other." He also said: "A believer with respect to other believers is
related like the head in respect to the body. A believer feels the pain of
other believers as the head feels the pain of the body."
5. Muslimummah
are one entity work as human body system.: Nu’manbn
Bashir reported Allah’s Messenger (SAW) as saying: The similarity of believers
in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when
any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever.Bukhari
6. Muslim
are brothers keepers:
A Muslim should always keep a favorable judgment towards his
Muslim brother and work hard to defend his honor. Abu Huraira (RA) said: The
Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the
worst of false tales. Do not look for other's faults. Do not spy one another,
and do not practice Najsh (means to offer a high price for something in order
to discredit another customer who is interested in the thing). Do not be
jealous of one another and do not ignite enmity against one another. Do not cut
ties with one another. Become the servants of Allah, and be brothers to one
another [as He commanded]. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He should
neither oppress him nor humiliate him. The piety is here! The piety is
here!". While saying so he pointed towards his chest. "It is enough
evil for a Muslim to look down upon his Muslim brother
All things of a Muslim are sacred for his brother in Faith: his
blood, his wealth and his honour. Verily, Allah does not look to your bodies
nor to your faces but He looks to your hearts and your deeds."Muslim
7.
Our differences in tribes, colors and races are
blessing from our lord. Allah says; O mankind, indeed we have created you
from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one
another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most
righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is knowing and acquainted. Q49:13
8.
Believers are but brothers: Allah says “the believers
are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that
you may receive mercy. Q49:10
9.
Believers are helpers to one another: Allah [SWT] says,
“The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin
what is right, forbid what is wrong, establish prayer, give zakah, and obey
Allah and His messenger. Those – Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah
is exalted in might and wise.
10. A
believer likes for his brother what he likes for himself. It was reported from
Anasbnmalik the servant of the prophet [saw] that the messenger [pbuh] said:
None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he love
for himself.” Bukhari and muslim
