The Freedom Group in Kwara state’s PDP has rejected the overtures of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to return to the party.
The group in a statement signed by its spokesman, Alhaji Tajudeen Kareem, said the agenda of the state government was to distabilise PDP in the state in favour of APC
“Rising from its 6th consultative meeting at Iwo Isin, Kwara state, the group said the intention of the governor and his godfather, Dr Bukola Saraki, is to destabilise the PDP and neutralise any opposition to the APC in the coming elections.
“In a five-point resolution, the group said it has uncovered a grand conspiracy to perpetuate the hegemony of Saraki in Kwara politics by fielding Alhaji Ahmed in PDP and Alhaji Kawu Baraje in APC. We can see through this subterfuge and we ask the PDP National Working Committee to distance itself from these ungrateful and greedy politicians.”
The group also urged President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint a new minister from Kwara state to enable the party work in cohesion for the success of PDP in the 2015 general elections.
They reaffirmed their support for the new state PDP executive committee and urged INEC to embark on massive voters’ education ahead of its plan to issue permanent voters cards and delineate new polling units.
But the APC State Publicity Secretary,Alhaji Sulyman Buhari in his reaction through a statement made available to Journalists in Ilorin maintained that both Governor Ahmed and Dr Bukola Saraki have dumped PDP and would not return.
“We have noted the reactions of about two factions of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State to the PDP – sponsored campaign that the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed made overture to return to the clueless PDP.
“We sympathize with the PDP because it is evident the party is yet to recover from the frustrations, pains and confusions that engulfed the party immediately Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Senator Bukola Saraki and the people of Kwara state dumped the party for APC.
“Our leaders dumped the PDP because it is a party that celebrates impunity. No going back. For us in Kwara State, PDP doesn’t exist in our present. We ask, which of the factions in PDP has Mr Governor negotiated with?, he said.
