APC Sweeps Kano LG Polls…Wins All 44 Chairmanship, 484 Councillorship Seats

Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress ( APC) as the winner of today’s Local Government election in the 44 Council areas of the State.
A press statement signed by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Sani Lawal said that the APC did not only win the 44 LGs but also won all the 484 councillorship positions in the state as declared by the Returning Officers at their various levels.
He thanked the state government, security agents, the 19 parties who took part in the election and the media for their support, saying the success recorded during the exercise was a collective one.
However, a former Governor of the State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau who recently decamped to the PDP has described the exercise as the biggest democratic fraud in history, calling on right thinking Nigerians to dissociate themselves from the results of the exercise.
Mallam Shekarau, who spoke at a press briefing at his home in Kano, implored the national leadership of APC to immediately disassociate itself from the mockery of democracy that was conducted in Kano under its name, saying the poll is a big disgrace to a party which aspires to rule Nigeria.
He vowed that the Peoples Democratic Party would contest all the results of the Local Government election once the tribunal is established for that purpose while appealing to those responsible for the setting up of the tribunal to quickly inaugurate the body. He observed that there were several irregularities that marred the exercise, noting that KANSIEC breached the electoral laws severally.
Among the irregularities, he stated,  include the absence of voting materials in most places, the non- conduct of any form of elections in several quarters, non-display of voters’ register, the non -display of list of candidates before the election and the deployment of local Government Education Secretaries and APC card carrying members as electoral officials among others.
