A
former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has warned
the Peoples Democratic Party against using the signature of another
person as the national secretary of the party.
Oyinlola said this in Okuku, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State on Sunday evening.
The Chairman of the PDP in Osun State,
Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, senatorial Chairman, Bunmi Jenyo and supporters
of the three governorship aspirants of the PDP in the state attended
the meeting.
It will be recalled that another
indigene of Osun State, Prof. Olawale Oladipo, emerged as the PDP
national secretary, following the nullification of Oyinlola’s
election by an Abuja Federal High Court.
However, the Court of Appeal set aside
this verdict of the lower court and declared Oyinlola as the validly
elected national secretary of the party but he has not been allowed to
perform as the party’s scribe.
Oyinlola said that he remained the
legally recognised national secretary of the PDP, saying any document
signed by anybody apart from him was void because such a signature would
be illegal.
Oyinlola, who was part of the defunct New PDP
which sprang up following a crisis at the party’s congress in August
2013, said that the opposition could use any document signed by another
person as the secretary of the party against the PDP in the law court.
The former governor said, “If anybody
signs any document now as the national secretary of the PDP, such a
document is not valid because I am the national secretary recognised by
the law.
“The opposition party could use such
invalid documents against us in the future and by then it would be too
late. I have not gone to any party and I will not defect to any party. I
am in the PDP and I am the secretary of the party. I will pursue the
case to a logical conclusion.”
Oyinlola stated that although he was part of the New PDP
which sprang up following the PDP crisis, he however said that he and
some other politicians, who were part of the group, refused to defect to
the All Progressives Congress when others dumped the PDP.
