THE 100  KHUTBAH DELIVERED AT AREA 10 JUMA’AT MASJID ABUJA, BY YAHYA GARBA AL-YOLAWI, ON 30TH  DEC, 2016/ 1ST  R/THANI 1438

AFTER HIJRA

PROPHET ISA A.S (JESUS P.B.U.H) IN THE LIGHT OF QUR’AN

We give thanks to Allah (SWT), we ask Him the most high to continue to shower His mercy upon the leader of humanity, Prophet Muhammad (SAW). His house hold, His companions and those who follow his guidance until the day of accountability.

To proceed;

Islam, besides Christianity, is the only major world religion that believes in Jesus (AS).  Islam respects and regards Jesus (peace be upon Him) in such a way that consider him one of the greatest Allah’s messengers to mankind. The Qur’an confirms his virgin birth, and
chapter 19th of the Holy Quran named after his mother ‘Maryam’ (A.S). A Muslim’s belief considered incomplete without believing in prophet Isa A.S (Jesus) as a servant and messenger of Allah (SWT).

The messenger of Allah [SAW] said "If anyone testifies that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone. Who has no partners, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger. And that Jesus is Allah’s servant and His Messenger and His Word which He bestowed on Mary and a Spirit from Him. And that Paradise is true, and Hell is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise with the deeds which he has done even if those deeds were few” Imam Bukhari.

Some of the Verses and ahadith on   prophet Isa (AS) includes.

1. Prophet Isa A.S [Jesus peace be upon Him] is one of the five (5) prominent messengers of Allah known as[‘Ulul azmi]. Allah [SWT] says “ and [ mention, o muhammad], when we took from the prophets their covenant and from you and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus, the son of Mary, and We took from them a solemn covenant.” Q.33:8

2. Believing in all messengers [including Jesus] is one of the six articles of faith in Islam.  Allah (SWT) says: “ The  Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from His lord, and [so have ] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers,[saying], “ we make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, we hear and we obey. [ we seek] Your forgiveness, our lord, and to you is the [final] destination.” Q2:286  and the messenger of  Allah was reported to have said “… Iman [belief] it is to believe in Allah, His Angels His books, His messengers, and the last day and to believe in divine destiny [qadr] both the good and the bitter of it….” Imam muslim

3.  His miraculous birth: Allah [SWT] says: “And mention,[o Muhammad], when the angels said, “o Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be  the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Marry- distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah]. He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous.” She said, “ my Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me? [the angel] said, “such is Allah; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, Be, and it is.”Q3:47

  4.  Jesus prayed and table Laden with Food was sent down to them.

In the fifth chapter of the Quran, "The Table Laden with Food" – named after the miracle of Jesus, Allah [SWT] narrates how the disciples of Jesus requested him to ask Allah to send down a table loaded with food. "When the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary!  Is your Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven?  He said: Observe your duty to Allah, if you are true believers.  They said: We desire to eat of it and our hearts be at rest, and that We may know that you have spoken truth to us, and that We may be witnesses thereof.  Jesus, son of Mary, said: 'O Allah, our Lord, send down for us a Table laden with food out of heaven, that shall be for us a recurring festival, the first and last of us, and a miracle from You.  And provide us our sustenance, for You are the best of providers!" (Quran 5:112-114)

5    He speak While Still in the Cradle

One of the miracles mentioned in the Quran, is that fact that Jesus, while still in the cradle, spoke out to protect his mother Mary from any accusations people may have placed on her due to having a child without a father.  When she was approached about this strange incident after her childbirth, Mary merely pointed to Jesus, and he miraculously spoke, just as Allah had promised her before.

Jesus said to the people:"I am indeed a servant of Allah.  He has given me the Book and made me a Prophet, and He has made me blessed wherever I may be.  And He has enjoined upon me prayers, and to pay the alms, as long as I live and (He has made me) kind to my mother, and He has not made me insolent, unblessed.  And may Peace be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and on the Day I shall be raised to life." (Quran 19:30-33)

5. Miracle of creating bird of clay:

Allah [SWT] mentions a miracle given to none of the prophet in the Quran but Jesus,it is one that  no one  can argue its greatness. Allah mentions in the Quran that Jesus says:

"I create for you out of clay the likeness of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird with God’s permission." (Quran 3:49)

4.      Healing the Blind and the Leper  “I also heal the blind and the leper." (Quran 3:49) The people during the time of Jesus were quite advanced in the science of medicine and were quite proud of their achievements.  For this reason, Allah gave miracles of this nature to Jesus, ones that the people could well understand that no force in nature could perform its like.

5.      The Resurrection of the Dead

"…and I bring to life the dead, by the permission of Allah." (Quran 3:49)

This, like the creation of a bird, was a miracle of incomparable nature, one which should have caused the people to believe in the prophet hood of Jesus peace be upon him without doubt.

6. Giving Information concerning Provisions of Today and Tomorrow

Jesus [pbuh] was given the miracle of knowing what people had just eaten, as well as what they had in store for the coming days.  Allah says: "I inform you too of what things you eat, and what you store up in your houses.  Surely in that is a sign for you, if you are believers." (Quran 3:49)

7.  Jesus peace be upon Him is a servant of Allah and His messenger: Allah says: “ O people of the scriptures, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, “three; desist- it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heaven and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels near [ to Him. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant- He will gather them to Himself all together.”Q:172-173

8. Jesus will reject those regard him as son of God

And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?'" He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.  I said not to them except what You commanded me - to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are, over all things, Witness.

If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them - indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Allah will say, "This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness." For them are gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them, and they with Him. That is the great attainment. Q5 117-119.

Conclusion

Islam is the only non-Christian faith, which makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus (pbuh). No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus (pbuh). We believe that he is one of the greatest Messengers of Allah (swt), born miraculously, without any male intervention. Muslims also believe he was the Messiah translated Christ (pbuh) and  he gave life to the dead with Allah’s permission. We believe that he healed those born blind, and the lepers also with Allah’s permission.Top of Form
